This tutorial came from a former student of mine as I am not a Mac user.

To Rip a DVD to put the movie on your iPad using a Mac

Handbrake DVD Ripping Installation
Download Handbrake from handbrake.fr
Install handbrake to Applications folder

Download VLC from http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/?source=directory
Install VLC to Applications folder

Download libdvdcss.pkg from
http://download.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.12/macosx/

Install libdvdcsspkg by clicking on the file. this is a library file that fixes the DRM that VLC 2.1 breaks . . .

Now open Handrake and select your source (DVD) and it will scan the chapters of the DVD and give you what it thinks is the movie. Choose where you want the DVD file to be made (I choose the Desktop) and name it too.

Click start and wait a while for it to finish ripping the dvd. (Takes a while)

Once ripped, Handbrake will notify you. Drag file into iTunes and iTunes will encode it for your phone/ipad.

Now you need to sync your iPad with iTunes on your computer and make sure you choose the movie/video as a file you want synced to the iPad.
